BC Old Age Pensioners Organization
Seniors' advocacy organization with 80 Branches across BC. OAPO's objectives are to promote in the best interests of all elder citizens of British Columbia all matters pertaining to their welfare. Some specific concerns are pensions, health care and home care, afforable housing, women's rights, taxation, social safety, and consultation.

COSCO – Council of Senior Citizens' Organizations of BC
The Council is a federation of 72 member seniors organizations from various areas of the Province representing approximately 65,000 seniors. It has been working for seniors at the Provincial and Federal level since 1950.


LGTB Generations Project - Vancouver
Serving and Supporting Ageing and Older LGTB People and Bringing Generations Together. The LGTB Generations Project - based on a partnership between The Centre and Service Options of Family Services of Greater Vancouver - reflects an exciting and innovative approach to age specific service delivery, education, and community development.

Seniors Network of BC
A central advocacy body through which seniors' groups in BC, and people advocating for seniors, can discuss their concerns, take action when necessary and present their common views to various levels of government.

Seniors Support Services – White Rock
Assists seniors to maintain or increase their independence so they may remain living in their own home.

Elder Abuse Services

Abuse Prevention and Legal Education Project – Surrey & Delta
Surrey-Delta Immigrant Services Society program: Educates the Chinese, Korean, Polish, South Asian, Spanish, and Vietnamese speaking communities on topics related to the rights of older adults, in their first language and from a culturally-appropriate perspective.

BCCEAS – BC Coalition to Eliminate Abuse of Seniors

Langley Coalition Against Abuse of Seniors
Multi-agency committee working to prevent elder abuse. Advocates and educates on behalf of seniors, addressing emotional, physical, and financial abuse. Serves Aldergrove, Cloverdale, Fort Langley, and Langley.

 

Multicultural Services

Indo-Canadian Seniors Society – Surrey & Delta
Offers recreation programs and services in Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, and English. Hosts speakers on various topics of interest to seniors. Senior counsellors provide assistance with completing income tax returns, as well as pension, MSP, and other forms.

South Asian Friendship Society – Burnaby
Weekly programs for Indo-Canadian seniors. Programs include speakers, peer counselling, outings, and other social and recreational activities. Operates out of Edmonds Community Centre for Older Adults in Burnaby

Vietnamese Seniors' Outreach Program – Vancouver
A social and support program linking Vietnamese-speaking seniors with programs at Britannia Community Centre in East Vancouver. Also assists with accessing social and community services.

Offers home care, transportation, friendly visitor, telephone friend, kosher meals on wheels, and seniors lunch club.

    Most of the community centres in Vancouver offer recreation and leisure services for seniors. Click the link to the community centre in your area to see if your centre has seniors' programming.

  • Programs and Activities at Community Centres
    From the Browse Programs links, you can go to a search page that will allow you to search for programs by community centre, age group, type of program, and day of the week.

  • Leisure Access Card Program
    The Leisure Access Card (LAC) Program is for Vancouver residents whose limited income may prevent them from participating in basic Park Board recreation programs and services. Seniors with a Ministry Transit Pass can apply directly at any community centre for their photocard or make an application with proof of low income. Applications are also available online.
